Agape Theater Company's Theater Practicum Class is a fun and safe opportunity for students ages 8 - 18 to grow in their understanding of theater arts. New actors will learn about the basics of stage craft and acting while more experienced students will continue to develop their performing arts skills. This class auditions, rehearses, and performs a non-musical production of Alice in Wonderland, allowing us to focus on character development, authentic acting, story telling, and team work.
We Meet Monday nights from 5:30 - 8:00pm at St. Roch's School Cafeteria in Indianapolis. Class dates are January 8, 15, 22, 29; February 5, 12, 26; March 4, 11; April 1 and 8
Mandatory Dress Rehearsals are on Monday, April 15 and Thursday, April 18 from 5:30 - 8:30pm at the Theater at the Fort in Lawrence (8920 Otis Ave. Indianapolis).
Performances at that location are April 19 and 20 at 7:30pm and April 21 at 2:30pm.
Tickets to the performances will be $10 for Adults, $5 for Children (up to age 12) and $15 for front row seats.
Ben Frederick, our Director, received his BA in Film and Television Writing/ Producing from Indiana University. He has also studied Theater Directing with Dr. Kathy Phipps. Ben's stage credits include "Captain Hook" in Peter Pan, "Lt. Frank Cioffi" in Curtains, "Camillo" in Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale, and "Quasimodo" in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Dr. Kathy Phipps, our Artistic Director, holds a BA, MA, and PhD. in Theater. A theater educator for 40+ years. Her production of Les Misérables won the "Most Impressive Youth Production Award" in 2017 (given to one production out of all the youth theater shows in the Indianapolis area). Her production of Shakespeare's The Tempest also won the "Most Impressive Youth Theater Production Award" in 2019. Kathy enjoys helping young people develop an appreciation and love for the theater arts.
Christine Osburn brings a wealth of experience to our team as Show Coordinator. She has choreographed our productions of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, School House Rock Jr, and Sing Down the Moon. She had taught dance for many years and serves on the Creative Team of the Agape Board of Directors.
Tuition for the class is $200 which covers classes, costumes, scenery, and other costs for the production.
Tuition is paid in two installments: $75 is due at registration and the final payment of $125 is due on January 6, prior to the first class session.
We can only 25 have students in this class to make sure that everyone gets individual attention, so please register early to secure your spot!
