Shakespeare's Julius Caesar at Indy Fringe in February 2024

About

Agape Theater Company has been performing Shakespearean plays since 2018. We are committed to creating excellent Shakespeare productions that are relevant, understandable and thrilling for the audience. These powerful performances are also an outstanding educational experience for performers and patrons. Agape is excited to announce that our first show of the 2024 season will be William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar.

This productiontakes place at the height of the Roman Republic, features some of Shakespeare’s most iconic lines, complex characters, and themes that are still relevant today.
Some Senators are concerned that Caesar poses a threat to democracy. The revolutionaries take the violent decision to murder him. As the world spins out of control, the chaos leads to civil war. The play examines the consequences of free will, the nature of loyalty, and the merits of democracy.

Darby Kear, our Assistant Director for Macbeth, will Direct this production. He played "Oberon" in our Midsummer, the "Porter" in Macbeth, and  "Nobleman" and "Shepherd" in our production of The Winter's Tale. His classical training also includes portraying the title role in Tartuffe.

Dr. Kathy Phipps is the Artistic Director. She studied Shakespeare in London and is trained in making the Shakespearean language accessible to the actor and audience. Performers who are new to Shakespeare are welcome to audition because she will teach you how to understand and love the language of the Bard.

Rachel Pergyl was our Fight Coordinator for Newsies, Macbeth, West Side Story, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and she will choreograph the fights and battle for this production. Rachael was trained in Stage Combat at Colombia College in Chicago.
